“Putting Mecca time in the face of Greenwich Mean Time. This is the goal.”

clock_1694458c The post title is a quote from a hotel manager in Mecca, commenting on the attempt to standardize time from the point of Mecca instead of from the prime meridian, representing 0 degrees longitude, which passes through the Greenwich Observatory. Having London regarded as the starting point for measuring time is regarded by some as lingering colonialism. It’s an interesting story about the assumptions behind standardizations and measurements.
